Ways to Give

For gifts over $1,000, there's a better way.

Credit-card giving is easy, but it's almost never the most tax-efficient option for larger gifts. Donor-advised funds, appreciated stock, IRA Qualified Charitable Distributions, bequests, and employer matching can multiply your impact at zero additional cost to you.

Six Better Ways

Pick what fits your situation.

Way 01

Donor-Advised Fund (DAF)

If you have a DAF at Fidelity Charitable, Schwab Charitable, Vanguard Charitable, the National Christian Foundation, or a community foundation, you can recommend a grant to HCTF.

Way 02

Appreciated Stock or Securities

Giving stock you've held more than a year lets you deduct the full market value and avoid capital-gains tax on the appreciation. For a stock that's doubled, you may receive 30%+ more impact per dollar than selling and donating cash.

Email Randy for our brokerage account details (DTC number and account number). The transfer typically takes 2–5 business days.

Way 03

IRA Qualified Charitable Distribution

If you're 70½ or older, you can give up to $105,000 per year (2025 limit, indexed) directly from your IRA to HCTF. The distribution counts toward your required minimum distribution and is excluded from your taxable income.

Ask your IRA custodian to send the QCD check directly to HCTF (made payable to "Haiti Child Thrive Foundation"). Email Randy for the mailing address and acknowledgment process.

Way 04

Bequest in Your Will

Including HCTF in your estate plan is one of the most powerful long-term gifts a donor can make. A simple bequest costs nothing today and can be a specific dollar amount, a percentage of your estate, or the residual after other gifts.

Suggested bequest language: "I give [$ amount or %] to Haiti Child Thrive Foundation, EIN 41-3538131, a 501(c)(3) public charity located in Midland, Texas, for its general charitable purposes."

Employer Matching Gifts

Many employers match charitable gifts dollar-for-dollar, and some at 2:1 or 3:1. HCTF is a 501(c)(3) public charity, which is what virtually every employer-matching program requires.

Check your HR portal or company matching-gift platform (Benevity, Bright Funds, YourCause, Givinga). Search for "Haiti Child Thrive Foundation" or use EIN 41-3538131. If the company needs any verification from us, Randy can provide it within a day.

Real Estate, Crypto, Other Assets

Real estate, business interests, life insurance policies, and cryptocurrency can also be donated. These gifts require coordination but can be powerfully tax-efficient. We work with The Signatry and similar Christian foundation partners to facilitate complex asset gifts.

Email Randy first. These always require a conversation before the transfer.

A Quiet Reminder

The smallest tax move can fund a year of school.

A $1,500 cash gift costs you $1,500. The same gift in stock that's doubled in value (held more than a year) may cost you only $1,050 net of avoided capital gains. Same impact for HCTF. Better outcome for you.

If you're not sure which option fits your situation, email Randy. We'll never push, but we'll happily walk you through the options and recommend you talk to your CPA or wealth advisor before deciding.
